Completed Family Room
Sustainable House Extension
South Cambridge

Carrying out a house extension gives you the opportunity to improve your quality of life and decrease your environmental impact.

Homes are a major source of CO2. By planning ahead at a time of change, you can more easily incorporate energy saving features and decrease your carbon footprint.

AC Architects have designed several extensions for this 1950s-designed, two-storey house extension in South Cambridge, increasing its amenity and re-modelling its street façade, blending new materials and forms, modernising and softening its appearance without losing its inherent character.

A major component of the brief was to reduce the family’s environmental impact whilst creating a modern, airy and well-lit family room, integrating seamlessly with the garden.

The construction process started with the installation of the rainwater collection tank.

This project is one of sixteen eco-houses in and around Cambridge opening its doors to form part of the Open Eco-House event, as part of the 2010 Cambridge Environment Festival.
