Thermal Upgrading of Modern Detached Home
Longstanton
AC Architects helped improve the energy efficiency of this mono-pitched timber-clad home in Longstanton.

The strategy included applying external PIR insulation to the walls at the first floor level, within the main monopitch roof and within the single storey living room roof. The buckled black weatherboard has been replaced with untreated Western Red Cedar and zinc detailing has been used at the monoridge and verges to help accommodate the additional thickness of the external insulation and to match in with the lean-to roof covering. The original aesthetic of the black boarding surrounds to windows has been maintained.

Solar thermal panels on the south facing lean-to roof contribute significantly to the hot water needs of the dwelling.
