Low energy refurbishment and fit out, rear single storey extension and loft conversion, Sawston
South Cambridgshire
Following a comprehensive eco-renovation, this two bedroom bungalow was converted into a four bedroom, three bathroom home by super insulating and making full use of the uninhabited loft space.

A single storey extension to the rear of the property creates a modern façade and forms a direct relationship between the kitchen/dining area and the garden. The front façade of the property has kept its more traditional appearance to remain in keeping with the surrounding properties and the original design of the bungalow. Alterations to the ground floor accommodation have allowed provision for a separate living room and utility with rear access. The loft conversion houses three double bedrooms, a family bathroom and a shower room. Copper clad rear dormers in each of the first floor bedrooms provide window seating and views out over the garden. Triangular oriel windows clad in copper on the side elevations continue the modern approach in design.

This project also included the installation of a new heating and hot water system, photovoltaic array, rainwater harvesting system, and wood burning stove.
