This ‘Arts and Crafts’ style home has been added to and extended since its’ initial construction in the 1920’s, much to the detriment of the appearance of its principal elevation.

AC Architects sought to bring visual cohesion to this façade from the approach by reinstating the original period features of the house and by balancing the formerly uneven elevation. To the front, the large flat roofed construction was replaced with a more lightweight pitched-roof gable which balances the new larger gable to the side extension. This is linked by a central dormer to the landing and entrance canopy beneath. The whole existing house was externally insulated whilst maintaining the original details and replacement windows and external doors were fitted throughout.

At the rear, the original veranda was reopened up to enhance the connection to the large wrap-around mature garden. The result is a charming home which celebrates the original Arts & Crafts style alongside providing increased accommodation with improved insulation at ground and first floors by means of an open-plan kitchen/living space and additional bedrooms to suit a growing family.
