AC Architects were appointed to reconfigure the landscaping layout at Long Road Sixth Form College, including the increase of usable space around the newly demolished Caretaker’s House. Bicycle storage was a key driving factor in the design, and this was increased next to the main entrance of the building, enhancing the use of sustainable transport across the site. The brief also included the design of increased car parking capacity for staff and students.

Reorganisation of the road layout from entrance to exit improves access and the flow of traffic and pedestrians across the site. A mature hawthorn hedge was planted around the perimeter of the bicycle storage to delineate the pedestrian areas and to encourage students to use the designated road crossing points.
