Dining/Family Area
Kitchen and dining room extension
Cambridge

Single storey side and rear extensions to this Edwardian terraced house make use of the full width of the plot to form an extended open plan kitchen and dining room including ground floor WC and lobby area.

The existing WC and utility facilities were relocated from the garden side of the house to the centre of the plan in order to improve the connection between living/dining areas and the garden as well as increasing the amount of natural daylight into the habitable rooms. Underfloor heating was incorporated throughout the extended areas.

The older part of the house was opened up to the extension with a wide full height opening and a trapezoid window has been incorporated to the opposite side of the old rear wall, balancing this opening and framing the hob against the wall. The mid-height worktop and bookcase borders the junction between the old and the new as well as the kitchen and circulation spaces.

Sanitary facilities in the existing house were upgraded at the same time, modernising and improving the family bathroom.
